From Sanctuary to Digital Gateway: The Story of the Rosa Parks Computer Learning Lab

For more than five decades, J.W. James AME Church has served as a cornerstone of faith and community in Maywood. In partnership with Quilt Corporation NFP and Cook County Digital Equity, the church opened the Rosa Parks Computer Learning Lab in February 2026 to expand digital access and opportunity for residents. Supported in part through the IMPACT Small Grants Program, the initiative provides technology access, digital skills training, and community support. The opening celebration also included the distribution of more than 100 laptops, highlighting a collaborative effort to bridge the digital divide and invest in Maywood’s future.

Kyla Williams Tate Recognized as a 2025 Digital Equity Champion

Today, the National Digital Inclusion Alliance (NDIA) named Kyla Williams Tate, Digital Equity Director for Cook County Government, as a 2025 Digital Equity Champion. As Cook County’s first-ever Digital Equity Director, Williams Tate helped lead the development and release of the Cook County Digital Equity Action Plan, a comprehensive roadmap for closing the digital divide in one of the nation’s largest and most diverse counties.

Cook County Recognized as One of the Nation’s Digital Inclusion Trailblazers

The National Digital Inclusion Alliance (NDIA) has once again recognized Cook County as a 2024 Visionary Digital Inclusion Trailblazer, the highest distinction in its annual program. This honor celebrates Cook County’s continued leadership and innovation in closing the digital divide and advancing equity for all residents through the implementation of its Digital Equity Action Plan.

Cook County Named Top Five Digital County in America for 2024

The Center for Digital Government (CDG) has once again recognized Cook County as one of America's leading digital counties, ranking it fifth among counties with populations of one million or more in the 2024 Digital Counties Survey. This marks the fifth consecutive year Cook County has placed in the top ten, showcasing its continued commitment to leveraging technology to improve government services and resident experiences.
