Description

In Full Color is an interactive art reception and conversation with Clara Woods, an internationally recognized, nonspeaking artist who understands three languages and is an official artist for the Olympic and Paralympic Games. Through her vibrant artwork and advocacy, Clara demonstrates that meaningful participation is possible when people have accessible tools, inclusive environments, and multiple ways to communicate and express themselves.

The reception will take place on October 4 as a continuation of Hack for Accessibility, a large-scale event hosted the previous day by Code Your Dreams, Deaf Kids Code, AIxDisability, and McDonald’s. At the hackathon, high school students, adult learners, professionals, and disability organizations will work together to imagine and build technology for a more accessible future. The reception will carry that conversation into Digital Inclusion Week by centering the creativity, leadership, and lived experiences of a disabled artist. Clara is the keynote on October 3rd's hackathon.

Our goals are to broaden the public’s understanding of digital inclusion beyond access to devices and internet connectivity; demonstrate how accessible technology and alternative forms of communication enable creativity, entrepreneurship, and full participation; elevate disabled voices as leaders and innovators; and inspire attendees to make their own programs, workplaces, and technologies more inclusive.

We hope to serve approximately 75–100 attendees. We will measure success through attendance, representation from disability, education, technology, and arts communities, participant feedback, and the number of attendees who report gaining a stronger understanding of digital accessibility and identifying at least one action they can take to advance inclusion.
